Art and Photography

GENERAL RULES & REGULATIONS

  1. This year there are two categories in this section for which can be entered, namely:
    a. Drawing and painting
    b. Photography
  2. Any person may enter this competition.
  3. Learners will compete in their respective grades and there is also a section for adults.
  4. All entries must be the original work of the participant.
  5. NB: A maximum of five entries per category, per participant will be allowed.
  6. When entering this competition, the participants and their parents/guardians/representatives agree to give the committee of the Eisteddfod the right to make prints and/or take photos of their art works and to use as marketing material on the Eisteddfod and their sponsors’ websites.
  7. Participants are expected to adhere to the rules and guidelines as set out in this document, as well as the general rules of the Eisteddfod.
  8. Under NO circumstances will any of the following be allowed:
    a. Images or ideas that are racist, sexist, inflammatory or anti-Semitic.
    b. If any work is found to contravene this rule, it will be disqualified.
  9. SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES: All drawing, painting and photography entries will be accepted until Wednesday Friday 21 August.  Entries may be submitted at Papilio Arts and Crafts, (21 Zune Street, Magna Via.) 
  10. The EXHIBITION will be opened during a Gala Function on Wednesday 16 September.
  11. IMPORTANT DATES:

    Friday 14 August​

    Closing date for entries at normal tariffs.

    Friday 21 August

    Closing date for late entries at increased tariffs.

    Friday 21 August

    Last day for the submission of drawing and painting and photography entries.

    Wednesday 16 September

    Gala Art  & Photography Exhibition of the 2020 Limpopo Eisteddfod 18:30.  
    No entry may be removed before 21h00.

  12. Please note: The executive committee of the Limpopo Eisteddfod will accept NO responsibility for any damage to or theft of any artwork exhibited at the exhibition.
  13. NB:  Entry Fees:  If a participant wants to enter MORE THAN ONE ENTRY per category, an entry fee is payable for each entry.

  14. EVALUATION: The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be conducted in this regard. Participants will be notified of the results of the competition.  The first three places will be announced in both categories for each grade and for the adults.

  15. The following criteria will be used during the evaluation:
    a. Faithfulness to the theme
    b. Visual impact
    c. Is a strong message conveyed
    d. Genuine personal response and involvement
    e. Creativity
    f. Skill

DRAWING AND PAINTING

PRACTICAL GUIDELINES FOR THE ENTRIES

  1. Any mediums may be used for the entries in this category. This includes paint (oil, acrylic and waterpaint), pastels, crayons, chalk, charcoal, pencil and ink.
  2. Please be sure to spray your entry with a fixative if you use a medium that can smudge.
  3. The prescribed size for ALL the artworks is A3.
  4. Eah art word must be provided with a TITLE.  This title does not refer to the theme, but is the name given to the art work by the participant; eg. Theme – Cliches: Title Rome wasn’t built in a day.
  5. Entries are to be handed in UNMOUNTED.  All art works will be mounted, and the costs will be included in the entry fee.
  6. NB:  All entries must be accompanied by an INFORMATION FORM with all relevant details of the participant, which include item code, grade, theme and title of  the work.

PHOTOGRAPHY

PRACTICAL GUIDELINES FOR THE ENTRIES

  1. All photos submitted for this category must be printed in A4 size. Each entry must also be sent electronically to Ms. Wilna van der Merwe at wilna@papilio.co.za for adjudication.
  2. The entries may be in colour or monochrome.
  3. Entries are to be handed in UNMOUNTED.  All art works will be mounted, and the costs will be included in the entry fee.
