Art and Photography

GENERAL RULES & REGULATIONS

  1. This year there are two categories in the art in which can be entered, namely:
    a. Drawing and painting
    b. Photography
  2. Any person may enter this competition.
  3. Learners will compete in their respective grades and there is also a section for adults.
  4. All entries must be the original work of the participant.
  5. A maximum of five entries per category, per participant will be allowed.
  6. When entering this competition, the participants and their parents/guardians/representatives agree to give the committee of the Eisteddfod the right to make prints and/or take photos of their art works and to use as marketing material on the Eisteddfod and their sponsors’ websites.
  7. Participants are expected to adhere to the rules and guidelines as set out in this document, as well as the general rules of the Eisteddfod.
  8. Under NO circumstances will any of the following be allowed:
    a. Images or ideas that are racist, sexist, inflammatory or anti-Semetic.
    b. If any work is found to contravene this rule, it will be disqualified.
  9. SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES: All drawing and painting and photography entries will be accepted at Eloff Gallery (c/o Dorp Street and Jorissen Street) until Tuesday 31st of July 2018.
  10. EXHIBITION: All artworks will be exhibited at Eloff Gallery from Thursday 20th September to Saturday 22nd September 2018.
  11. EVALUATION: The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be conducted in this regard. Participants will be notified of the results of the competition.  The first three places will be announced in both categories for each grade and for the adults.
  12. The following criteria will be used during the evaluation:
    a. Faithfulness to the theme
    b. Visual impact
    c. Is a strong message conveyed
    d. Genuine personal response and involvement
    e. Creativity
    f. Skill

Please note: The executive committee of the Limpopo Eisteddfod, as well as the management of Eloff Gallery will accept NO responsibility for any damage to or theft of any artwork exhibited at Eloff Gallery
 

IMPORTANT DATES

Friday 20 July - Closing date for entries at normal tariffs.

Tuesday 31 July - Closing date for late entries at increased tariffs.

Tuesday 31 July - Last day for the submission of drawing and painting and photography entries at Eloff Gallery

Thursday 20September - Opening night of the 2018 Limpopo Eisteddfod Art Exhibition at Eloff Gallery, 18:30.

Friday 21 September - Limpopo Eisteddfod Art Exhibition at Eloff Gallery

Saturday 22 September - Limpopo Eisteddfod Art Exhibition at Eloff Gallery. Artists must please collect all artworks by 16:00

 

DRAWING AND PAINTING

PRACTICAL GUIDELINES:

  1. Any mediums may be used for the entries in this category. This includes paint (oil, acrylic and waterpaint), pastels, crayons, chalk, charcoal, pencil and ink.
  2. Please be sure to spray your entry with a fixative if you use a medium that can smudge.
  3. The prescribed sizes for the artworks are as follows:
    Grade 1 -4: A4 size
    Grade 5 – Adults: A3 size
  4. All entries MUST be mounted.  The mounting will be done by Eloff Gallery and the costs will be included in the entry fee.
  5. All entries must be dropped of at Eloff Gallery in a plastic filing bag or an envelope.
  6. Along with the artwork, the filing bag or envelope must also contain a seperate paper which indicates the following VERY CLEARLY:
    a. The participants name and surname
    b. The itemcode, grade and theme
    c. The title of you artwork
        This title does not refer to the theme, but to the name that the participant gives to his/her artwork, eg: Theme: Clichés, Title: Rome wasn’t built in a day.

 

PHOTOGRAPHY

PRACTICAL GUIDELINES:

  1. All photos submitted for this category must be A4 size.
  2. The entries may be in colour or monochrome.
  3. All entries MUST be mounted.  The mounting will be done by Eloff Gallery and the costs will be included in the entry fee.
  4. All entries must be dropped of at Eloff Gallery in a plastic filing bag or an envelope.
  5. Along with the photo, the filing bag or envelope must also contain a seperate paper which indicates the following VERY CLEARLY:
    a. The participants name and surname
    b. The itemcode, grade and theme
    c. The title of you photo
    d. This title does not refer to the theme, but to the name that the participant gives to his/her artwork, eg: Theme: Interesting shapes, Title: Natural Triangles.

 

 

PLEASE TAKE NOTE:

On the opening night of the exhibition, we are planning to auction off a few of the entries.  Proceeds will be divided on a 50/50 basis between the artist and the Limpopo Eisteddfod. If you would NOT like your entry to be considered for the auction, please indicate this along with the above mentioned information that has to accompany your entry.
